How to Crack the Account Password on Any Operating System

Posted by Srikanth Jalam

Computer passwords are like locks on doors – they keep honest people honest. If someone wishes to gain access to your laptop or computer, a simple login password will not stop them. Most computer users do not realize how simple it is to access the login password for a computer, and end up leaving vulnerable data on their computer, unencrypted and easy to access.

Are you curious how easy it is for someone to gain access to your computer? If so, read on to see the technique one might use to figure out your computer password.
Windows
Windows is still the most popular operating system, and the method used to discover the login password is the easiest. The program used is called Ophcrack, and it is free. Ophcrack is based on Slackware, and uses rainbow tables to solve passwords up to 14 characters in length. The time required to solve a password? Generally 10 seconds. The expertise needed? None.
ophcrackSimply download the Ophcrack ISO and burn it to a CD (or load it onto a USB drive via UNetbootin). Insert the CD into a machine you would like to gain access to, then press and hold the power button until the computer shuts down. Turn the computer back on and enter BIOS at startup. Change the boot sequence to CD before HDD, then save and exit.
The computer will restart and Ophcrack will be loaded. Sit back and watch as it does all the work for your. Write down the password it gives you, remove the disc, restart the computer, and log in as if it were you own machine.
Mac
The second most popular operating system, OS X is no safer when it comes to password cracking then Windows.
The easiest method would be to use Ophcrack on this, also, as it works with Mac and Linux in addition to Windows. However, there are other methods that can be used, as demonstrated below.
If the Mac runs OS X 10.4, then you only need the installation CD. Insert it into the computer, reboot. When it starts up, select UTILITIES > RESET PASSWORD. Choose a new password and then use that to log in.
If the Mac runs OS X 10.5, restart the computer and press COMMAND + S. When at the prompt, type:
fsck -fy
mount -uw /
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
dscl . -passwd /Users/UserName newpassword
That’s it. Now that the password is reset, you can login.
Linux
Finally, there is Linux, an operating system quickly gaining popularity in mainstream, but not so common you’re likely to come across it. Though Mac and Linux are both based on Unix, it is easier to change the password in Linux than it is OS X.
To change the password, turn on the computer and press the ESC key when GRUB appears. Scroll down and highlight ‘Recovery Mode’ and press the ‘B’ key; this will cause you to enter ‘Single User Mode’.
You’re now at the prompt, and logged in as ‘root’ by default. Type ‘passwd’ and then choose a new password. This will change the root password to whatever you enter. If you’re interested in only gaining access to a single account on the system, however, then type ‘passwd username’ replacing ‘username’ with the login name for the account you would like to alter the password for.
Conclusion
There you have it – that is how simple it is for someone to hack your password. It requires no technical skills, no laborious tasks, only simple words or programs. The moral of the story? Encrypt your data to keep it safe. Don’t use only a password, but actually encryption, such as Blowfish or AES-128. There are a number of programs that can do this – TrueCrypt for Windows, or the native encryption found on Ubuntu, creating a disk image in Mac, etc.

Infosys Likely To Offer 13,000 Jobs on Campuses

Posted by Samba Shiva

BANGALORE: Infosys Technologies, the country’s second largest IT services exporter, is likely to make 13,000 campus offers to fresh engineering graduates who are expected to join during the course of fiscal 2011.

Nandita Gurjar, senior VP, Infosys said that they have already started going to campuses in about 700 engineering colleges
. Infosys had made 20,000 offers to engineering graduates for the 2009 fiscal, though only around 75-80 % of the students actually join the company.

The Indian IT services industry has discontinued the earlier practice of selecting the students a year before they complete their graduation and is now visiting colleges in the final semester itself. According to the Infosys official, they would be closing the 2009 fiscal with around 18,000 freshers and 3,500 experienced hires and it is expected that the same hiring numbers is likely for the coming fiscal.
The compensation package for the students coming into Infosys from the next fiscal will be same as last year.
The campus offers for the Indian IT industry had run into certain rough weather during the FY09 with certain companies delaying the entry of these students and in some cases putting them on a different stream of work.

New Magnetic Tuning Method Enhances Data Storage

Posted by NℐƬђⓘη ℛƹ∂∂ツ

Researchers in Chicago & London have developed a method for controlling the properties of magnets that could be used to improve the storage capacity of next-generation computer hard drives
Magnets that can readily switch their polarity are widely used in the computer industry for data storage, but they present an engineering challenge: A magnet's polarity must be easily switched when writing data to memory, but be difficult to switch when storing or reading it.
These conflicting requirements are typically met by heating and softening the magnet for saving data, then cooling and hardening the magnet for storage and reading.

But now the University of Chicago's Daniel Silevitch and Thomas Rosenbaum and Gabriel Aeppli of the London Centre for Nanotechnology (a joint enterprise of University and Imperial Colleges London) have filed a patent on a method that avoids this complex heating operation.
As the trio report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, they can tune the softness of the magnet with the application of a small external magnetic field, which allows writing, storage and readout at a fixed temperature.

The Fastest Computer Setup On Earth

The World’s Fastest Desktop PC
World's Fastest Desktop
At £3′940, the YOYOtech Fi7epower MLK1610v certainly doesn’t claim to be the cheapest PC in the world, however what it does claim to be is the world’s fastest PC after recently breaking the world record in the industry standard SPEC CPU2006 benchmark tests. The innards of this system are of such high quality that were you to purchase just the 9GB of DDR3 memory and Intel Core i7-965 Extreme Edition processor, it would set you back close to £2′000. If the hardware itself isn’t speedy enough for you, also included with the PC is an embedded operating system called ExpressGate. It boots up from cold in 5 seconds.

Google Smartphones to Be Able to Translate in Real Time

Posted by Samba Shiva

Silicon Valley giant, Google, is currently working on creating a mobile phone that could provide an immediate translation of spoken words from one language to another. According to Franz Och, Google's head of translation services, in a few years it would be possible to create a device that could work properly, offering speech-to-speech translation.
"Clearly, for it to work smoothly, you need a combination of high-accuracy machine translation and high-accuracy voice recognition, and that's what we're working on," said Mr. Och.
Google says that its mobile phone will be able to learn the style of talking of its user, which would considerably improve its translation potential. "Everyone has a different voice, accent and pitch. But recognition should be effective with mobile phones because by nature they are personal to you," said Mr. Och.
At the same time language specialists believe that such technology is far from being developed. According to David Crystal, honorary professor of linguistics at Bangor University, the issues linked with the speed of speech and range of accents could make Google's goal impossible to accomplish.
